On 23rd May 1932 in London, Jeannie Iris Angel Christine Jane Ruskin was born, Jeannie was a lovely bonny baby, as she grew she was full of energy, bright and a treasure to have around. She had a particular love of horses, she had a horse of her own, which saved her life when she was 4, as she fell into the horses drinking barrel head first, he pulled her out. They had a very special bond. Jeannie's childhood was much like any child; she was evacuated during the war. Jeannie eventually joined the RAF, and during this time she was sent to reading, she was nicknamed Johnny by her friends. While there she met a man called Alan Clifford Abery, and they started courting. Alan was a chef and Jeannie would meet him while he was working, she would sit on top of a pile of potatoes, and he would get her something to eat until he finished. Jeannie would tell a story of when she first started going out with Alan. When they would be out anywhere and they would cross a road, Alan would put his hand on Jeannie's bottom and go OOPS, Jeannie never said anything for quite a while. Then one day when Alan did it, she asked him why he kept putting his hand on her bottom and go OOPS when they crossed a road. Alan in a very serious tone said, its so your bottom doesn't hit the curb when you step down. Jeannie promptly belted him with her handbag, then they both laughed, she loved Alan's Humour. Jeannie & Alan left the RAF and decided to get married.
So on 5th October 1957 Alan & Jeannie became husband and wife. Alan and Jeannie never thought they could have children but on 30th December 1959 they had a baby girl and called her Fay, then on 2nd December 1961 they had a boy and called him Stuart. They thought their family was complete, but on 10th January 1964 they had another girl and called her Zoe. With this their family was complete. Alan & Jeannie concentrated on bringing their children up. Jeannie's children grew up and had children of their own, and she loved her grandchildren. In 1990 Jeannie's husband Alan died, she missed Alan badly, but she continued with daily life and slowly found a new lease of life. Jeannie had lots of friends, whom she was very fond of; she led a very busy life. She loved her garden and spent many hours working in it, she had her clubs where she would meet her friends. Jeannie's health in later years was not too good, she had lots of medical problems, but never let them get her down. As time went on she kept falling over, and getting lots of chest infections, which took longer time, and more antibiotics to clear up. But Jeannie was a fighter, she wouldn't give up, and so she always managed to fight them off. Then on 27th August 2005 Jeannie fell out of bed and broke her leg. She was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, where they
Pinned he leg, she recovered well from the operation, and was looking forward to going home, As Jeannie didn't like hospitals and wouldn't eat their food.
But then Jeannie came down with a chest infection, which the doctors did not know if she could beat, but being the fighter Jeannie was she pulled through. With that Jeannie was sent to Wokingham hospital for rehabilitation, After a few days she felt fine and wanted to go home, and Jeannie being Jeannie didn't care what the doctors said she felt fine. So she was going home and arranged the day to be picked up, and taken home. But on that day before she had the chance to be picked up, Jeannie became very poorly and was rushed back to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, they made her stable and the next day they told us that they did not expect her to make it through the night. Jeannie has got double pneumonia, chest infection in both lungs and an infection in her blood. But as Jeannie had done before she fought and pulled through to everyone's surprise, and relief. Jeannie started to improve leaps and bounds, she was still weak but looked very much better, and wanted to go home but time she new it was not time. Each day Jeannie improved, and was back to her old self, and joking about. Then suddenly Jeannie took a turn for the worse, the doctors told us, that although they had given Jeannie everything they could, the pneumonia and chest infection and not improved at all. And as Jeannie was not improving, but getting worse, the doctors felt that the kindest thing for Jeannie was to let nature take its course, but keep her comfortable and free from pain, until she died.
Over the next few days her daughter Zoe and granddaughter Melissa, stayed by her bedside all day, every day. Her family and friends also came to see her, and finally on 3rd October 2005 with her daughters Fay & Zoe and granddaughter Melissa
by her side, Jeannie passed away very peacefully
in her sleep.
Jeannie was a wonderful woman, don't get me wrong, she wasn't perfect, she like all of us all, had her faults, but she was still very special, she cared for others and would always help anyone if she could. Jeannie was a lovley special person and was loved by her family and friends and will be missed so very much by all.
Mum sleep peacefully, you deserve it, we love you so much, we will never forget you, you will always and forever be in our hearts.
